Pneumata

"Pneumata", created by Cassiopeia Sturm and Sam Calvetti, is a autonomous sound sculpture that evokes the presence of a person experiencing breathing difficulties. The simulation of regular deep breaths to rapid or limit breathing, and finally to total breathlessness, mimic the stages of human pneumological issues. The robot cycles through these states in a manner influenced by the breathing of interacting audience members. By sitting and breathing with Pneumata, participants experience a simulation of the interaction between breathless individuals and their caretakers.
